The Royal Australian Air Force Nursing Service (RAAFNS) was formed in July 1940. Applicants were required to be Registered Nurses, who were unmarried female Australian citizens aged between 21 and 40 years old. They were required to discharge from the RAAFNS if they married.
No. 2 Medical Air Evacuation Transport Unit (2 MAETU) was formed in 1945 with ten new nurses from the Royal Australian Air Force Nursing Service (RAAFNS).
