FORCED LANDING OF AN L-4 PIPER
CUB
NEAR SAMSONVALE AWLA TRAINING FARM
ON AN UNKNOWN DATE
DURING WWII
![]()
My late friend Ken Gold told me about two forced landings that he knew took place during WWII. One was a "forced landing" of an L-4 Cub just NNE of his parents' home near Samsonvale and the other was the forced landing of a USAAF Glider north east of his wife's parents' Farm House near Mount Pleasant.
The L-4 Cub made an "emergency landing" on an unknown date during WWII about 5 miles north west of Dayboro on Ken Gold's aunty's property which just happened to be north of the Australian Women's Land Army Training Farm at Samsonvale. The apparent reason for the "emergency landing" was to liaise with the ladies from the AWLA Training Farm. The US Army's 1st Cavalry Division had their camp a few miles away and they had an artillery range about 2 miles east of the AWLA Training Farm. They used a small number of L-4 Piper Cubs as spotter aircraft for the artillery range.

Can anyone help me with more information on this crash?
