The Oonoonba Auxiliary Fire Brigade was started at Oonoonba in Townsville during WW2. It was based at Fred Lister's house at 24 Abbott Street, Oonoonba where they kept their fire truck and water tank. Members were:-

Fred Lister (Fire Chief)
Don Black
Jack Moore
Walter Millican
Jack Wheeler
George Muller
Jim Collins (Instructor)
Gordon Prideaux (joined later)

They had dug some open trenches in the back yard as Air Raid Shelters.

They would fill their water tank in the lagoon across Abbott Street in the 13 Australian Army Personnel Staging Camp. The would also train with the Army personnel of the Army Fire Brigade. They also occasionally trained with the Fire Unit in the nearby US Army Camp.
