DURING WW2

The US Army established a Camp on the northern side of O'Donnell Street, Oonoonba near Tom Nicholls Creek during WW2. The creek is now called Gordon Creek. Their camp was in the vicinity of today's Jordan Street, Oonoonba. They had initially camped past the Reserev along what is now called Oonoonba Road.

Some local house were commandeered by the US Army. Some of the householders refused to leave their homes.

Battery "C" of the 1st Battalion of the 208th Coastal Artillery (AA) Regiment was camped in this location. Their four 3" anti-aircraft guns were located nearby. They stayed there for about 3 months.

There was an Australian Army Camp on the other side of O'Donnell Street.
