CRASH OF A P-40 KITTYHAWK
NEAR PORTLAND ROADS, QLD
Kittyhawk
RAAF P-40 Kittyhawk A29-362 of 76 Squadron, crashed on a beach 2 miles from Portland Roads. The pilot, Flying Officer Norman Peter Randall (405324) aged 22 years, was killed and was subsequently buried at the Townsville War Cemetery (Grave Reference/Panel No. B.C.8). He was the son of Doctor William Henry Norman and Helen Julia Randall of Dalby.
Bob Atkinson tells me that Portland Roads is the nearest port to Iron Range/ Lockhart River and is about 20 miles to the northeast of that place. See the map below.
