USS Finback was a "Gato" class submarine that operated out of Fremantle submarine base in July 1943.

USS Finback rescued the future President of the USA, George W. Bush after he was shot down while attacking Iwo Jima in 1944. His usual turret gunner, Leo Nadeau, was replaced that day by a Navy P.R. officer. He died in the crash.
