![]()
Flight Sergeant Jack (John) McNally RAAF (3372) served in the RAAF from 16 May 1938 to 8 August 1946.
On 1 March 1943 Jack was posted from 6SFTS Mallala to 55 OBU to do a Conversion Course on B-24 Liberators. He completed this course with the 380th Bombardment Group, USAAF at Fenton in the Northern Territory.
From there he was posted to 24 Squadron at Manbullo airfield in the Northern Territory near Katherine. 24 Squadron RAAF was based at Manbullo airfield from June to September 1944. Later the squadron transferred to Moratai in Indonesia.
As the war ended Jack was posted to 25 Squadron at Cunderdin in West Australia until his discharge on 8 August 1946.
Flight Sergeant Jack McNally was a Fitter 2A in charge of ground crew.
When Jack McNally contacted me on 20 March 2005, he was 86 years old and living in Perth. Jack travelled to Adelaide on 14 March 2005 until 18 March 2005 with his daughter Wendy Coultas to re-trace his time at Mallala. He also hoped to visit the 24 Squadron Museum.
The following photographs were supplied by Jack McNally via his daughter Wendy Coultas
