Tiger Moth A17-614 (c/n DHA1049) from 7 Communications Unit (Dunreath) took off from Busselton Airfield, in Western Australia at about 1440 hours on 6 August 1945. The pilot, F/Sgt Archibald Charles Strang (441400), found that he had no rudder control as the rudders appeared to be jammed. In endeavouring to control the aircraft he hit a small tree and crashed from about 10 feet. The pilot and his unnamed passenger were both uninjured.

The wreckage of Tiger Moth A17-614 was relocated to 4 CRD Maylands on 9 August 1945 for conversion to components. Tiger Moth A17-614 was previously operated by 35 Squadron RAAF in 1943.
