CRASH LANDING OF A BEAUFORT
AT NOONKANBAH AIRFIELD, WA
ON 15 JUNE 1943

 

On 15 June 1943, Beaufort A9-221 of 14 Squadron RAAF (Pearce Airfield), piloted by Aubrey John Raymond Oates (260822), crash landed at Noonkanbah Airfield in Western Australia. The starboard undercarriage leg collapsed when it struck a ditch outside the aerodrome markers and the aircraft ground looped. There were no injuries. The crew comprised second pilot Wing Commander Thomas MacBride Price, D.F.C. (172), observer Flight Sergeant C. C. Smith, W/T Operator Sergeant Cane, and two other ranks, plus medical passenger Squadron Leader Rollo Greenlees (281231).
