CRASH LANDING OF A GRUMMAN
J2F-5 DUCK
AT PEARCE AIRFIELD, WA
ON 29 DECEMBER 1942

On 29 December 1942, US Navy Grumman J2F-5 Duck 101-S- 61 (Buno 768) of Fleet Air Wing Ten ran off the runway at Pearce Airfield and overturned, after completing a landing during practice circuits and landings. There were no injuries.
Lieutenant M. H. Hawkins had left Advance Base "A" at Pelican Point, in Perth earlier that day on a checkout flight to Pearce Airfield for Lieutenant P. F. Redell.
Lieutenant E. J. McConnell departed for Pearce later that day in Grumman J2F-5 Duck 101-S-62 with Lieutenant Commander D. G. Donaho and Lieutenant R. L. Duncan to investigate the crash of 101-S-61.
The damaged aircraft was dismantled by US Navy personnel and returned to Crawley the following day .
