CRASH OF A P-40 KITTYHAWK
AT GOL GOL GUNNERY RANGE, NSW
ON 26 JULY 1943
![]()
At 1450hrs on 26 July 1943, RAAF P-40 Kittyhawk of No. 2 Operational Training Unit (2 OTU) at Mildura crashed at Gol Gol Gunnery Range in New South Wales. The pilot Pilot Officer Joseph George Crowe (417811) was killed in the crash.
P/O Crowe was detailed for Air to Ground gunnery at Gol Gol Gunnery Range. On his first dive at the target, he appeared to pull out too late and the aircraft hit the ground in a flat configuration behind the target and then bounced back up into the air to 200 to 300 feet, rolled over, and then spun into the ground and burst into flames.
Can anyone help me with more information on this crash?
