CRASH OF AN AVRO ANSON
ABOUT 3 MILES WEST OF NOORA, SA
ON 24 SEPTEMBER 1943

At approximately 2115 hours E.S.T. on 24 September 1943, Avro Anson W2481 of 2 A.N.S. RAAF crashed about 3 miles west of Noora in South Australia during a navigational training flight killing all on board. The aircraft was a write off.

Those killed were as follows:-

Sgt John Vickery Bowman (4360065) - Pilot
F/O Laurence Andrew Flynn (411766) - see Note below
P/O Albert Nicholas Rapp (410832)
Sgt Ronald Edwin Obst (437152)

Note:- The Official "Preliminary Report (Internal) of Flying Accident or Forced Landing" states that the crash occurred 20 miles south of Loxton, which is incorrect. The newspaper article listed in the References below describes the crash of W2481, and states that the aircraft crashed 3 miles west of Noora. Ray Edwards who lived near the crash site also confirmed the location which is about 12 miles east of Loxton rather than 20 miles south of Loxton. F/O L.A. Flynn is shown as the pilot on the Avro Anson on the "Preliminary Report", which is incorrect. Whilst Flynn was a pilot, he was not the pilot of that aircraft during that flight. Sgt. John Vickery Bowman (4360065) was the pilot of Avro Anson W2481.

Approximate location of the crash site
