CRASH OF AN A-24
AT AMBERLEY AIRFIELD, QLD
ON 17 JANUARY 1942
On 17 January 1942, a USAAF A-24 #41-15798, piloted by 2nd Lieutenant W.H. Barnel ground looped in a cross wind at Amberley airfield in Queensland. It suffered extensive damage to the port wing, flaps, and airscrew. The pilot tube was broken and the "port tire starboard leg folded up".
