AVRO ANSON COLLIDED WITH
P-40E KITTYHAWK AND CAMP BUILDING
AT ARCHERFIELD AIRFIELD, BRISBANE, QLD
ON 12 MARCH 1942
![]()
On 12 March 1942, Squadron Leader Le Good in Avro Anson AW665, possibly of 3SFTS Amberley, crashed whilst taking off at Archerfield Airfield. Sergeant Nolan was his second pilot and Sergeants Crosbie and Smith were the other crew members of the Avro Anson. They collided with and slightly damaged a P-40E Kittyhawk of 2 EFTS and also hit a camp building. There were no injuries to the crew. The Avro Anson was extensively damaged.
NOTE:- Whilst the ORB for Station Headquarters Archerfield describes Sqn Ldr Le Good as the pilot, I am unable to find Sqn Ldr Le Good in the WWII Nominal Roll. Gordon Birkett suggested that perhaps it may have been F/Lt John Legay Brereton who was transferred from 3 SFTS Amberley to 75 Squadron RAAF for flying duties on 18 March 1942.
