CRASH OF A VULTEE VENGEANCE
SOUTH OF LOWOOD AIRFIELD, QLD
ON 13 OCTOBER 1943

At about 1550 hours on 13 October 1943, Vultee Vengeance A27-73 of 23 Squadron RAAF failed to pull out of a 60 degree dive and crashed at high speed south of Lowood Airfield into farm land near the airfield. Fabric had torn from the elevators during the steep dive, causing complete loss of control of the aircraft. Under side port elevators fabric was recovered.

The following two crew members were killed in this tragic accident:-

Flight Sergeant Edward Warren Cosh (409086) (Pilot)
Flight Sergeant Norman Lloyd Jenkins (409712) ( Navigator)

They were both buried in the Esk Cemetery.
