CRASH OF AN AVRO ANSON
AT AMBERLEY AIRFIELD, QLD
ON 30 JULY 1941

Avro Anson R.3553 of No. 3 Service Flying Training School (3 SFTS Amberley) crashed near Amberley Airfield whilst night flying at 0030 hours on 30 July 1941. The aircraft hit trees on the boundary of Amberley Airfield during a landing approach.
The following crew ere both killed in this tragic accident:-
Flying Officer George Campbell Hughes (665)
LAC Hawtrey Montague White (416010)
The Probable Cause for the Accident was shown in the "Preliminary Report (External) of Flying Accident or Forced Landing" as "Error of Judgment".
