COLLISION BETWEEN A TIGER MOTH
AND A CIVILIAN AERONCA
1/2 MILE NORTH OF ARCHERFIELD AIRFIELD,
BRISBANE, QLD,
ON 12 APRIL 1941

Tiger Moth

Tiger Moth A17-20 of 2 Elementary Flying Training School 2 EFTS at Archerfield, collided with civilian Aeronca VH-ACH, half a mile from Archerfield Airfield, Brisbane at 0707 hours on 12 April 1941. The two aircraft collided whilst approaching to land. Both aircraft managed to land safely. The Probable Cause was listed as "Lack of vigilance".

Tiger Moth A17-20 suffered damage to the fairing on the undercarriage compression strut and the brackets from the aileron control on the starboard mainplane was bent. The air crew of the Tiger Moth, Flying Officer Reginald George Robinson (270372) and LAC Walter Spencer Bell (405243) along with the pilot of the Aeronca, Mr. F. Casalgno, were all uninjured.
