At 1340K hours on 6 November 1944 a Grumman Goose aircraft attempted to land cross wind across the Brisbane River near the US Naval Air Station at Colmslie, in Brisbane, Queensland. The aircraft was on a short flight from Archerfield to Hamilton.

The aircraft touched the water and then appeared to attempt to take off again but the float hit the stone retaining wall and then ploughed its way through a bank of sand which caused the aircraft to turn over on its nose and ended up nose first on to Harbour Road at Hamilton. Several phone wires were torn down.

The pilot and the observer both sustained injuries and were taken to hospital. The observer suffered a broken jaw.
