ACCIDENT TO AND FORCED LANDING OF A B-25 MITCHELL
AT CHARTERS TOWERS, QLD
ON 1 DECEMBER 1942

B-25 Mitchell #41-29728 of the 90th Bomb Squadron, 3rd Bomb Group piloted by Donald J. MacLellan, was buzzing a farm about 7 miles west of Charters Towers after a training mission on 1 December 1942.
The B-25 struck the roof of a barn and badly damaged its engine and rudder but McLellan managed to feather the prop and return to Charters Towers airfield, landing on one engine. MacLellan went to the farm the next day and gave the owner 120 Australian Pounds for repairs to his barn.
