CRASH OF A C-46D COMMANDO
IN DARWIN RIVER, NT
ON 28 FEB 1945

 

USAAF C-46D Commando #42-96786 "Sleepy Time Gal", crashed in the sea, 10 miles out from Darwin in the Northern Territory on 28 February 1945 killing the following four crew members:-

S/Sgt Merle L. Bice
2nd Lt Glen Rex Jacobs
2nd Lt George A. Pfrommer
Sgt Walter F. Plisga

The C-46 Commando was enroute from Biak to Darwin and was last sighted at approximately 09.15 - 131.50. It failed to arrive in Darwin. The pilot, 2nd Lt. Glen Rex Jacobs was with the 8th Squadron, 2nd Combat Cargo Group.
