CRASH OF A LOCKHEED HUDSON
AT DARWIN AIR TO GROUND BOMBING RANGE, NT
ON 15 AUGUST 1941

On 15 August 1941, Lockheed Hudson A16-8, of 13 Squadron RAAF, piloted by F/O Murray Charles Davies (637), failed to come out of a dive and hit the target with its wing whilst diving at the Darwin air to ground bombing range. The port engine fell off and the aircraft crashed into the sea approximately 250 yards beyond the line of targets.
All of the crew were killed as follows:-
F/O Murray Charles Davies (637)
F/O Paul Wallace Keely (669)
Sgt Maxwell Alexander Hipkins (400176)
LAC James Currie (8813)
The aircraft was a complete write-off and the engine and airframe were salvaged from the sea.
