CRASH OF A P-40E KITTYHAWK
AT BANKSTOWN, NSW

ON 27 FEBRUARY 1942

On 27 February 1942, at 1500 hours, a USAAF P-40E Kittyhawk, Serial No. #41-5329, piloted by 2nd Lieutenant John L. Fisher, crashed while landing at Bankstown in New South Wales. The aircraft ground looped and damaged the left wing, propeller, air scoop and canopy. It was relocated to Geelong in Victoria. The pilot was uninjured in the landing accident.

NOTE:- Another official record titled "Historical record, 49th Ftr Gp, Chap I, Sec II" sent to me via Yvonne Kinkaid, indicated that this crash occurred on 25 February 1942, two days earlier than the report by 1st Lt. Elmore G. Brown.
