AT WILLIAMTOWN AIRFIELD, NSW

ON 13 FEBRUARY 1942

In about February 1942, a USAAF P-40E Kittyhawk, Serial No. #41-5533, piloted by 2nd Lt. Wade Holman (0-421092) of "A" Flight 13th Pursuit Squadron (Provisional), overshot the runway at Williamtown airfield in New South Wales, when the pilot applied excessive brakes. The aircraft suffered extensive damage to the wing, undercarriage, and airscrew.

The US Air Force record shows this crash happened at Williamstown, with an "s". I've assumed it happened at Williamtown in New South Wales.

The aircraft was transferred after repairs to the RAAF as A29-39.
