Wednesday 19 August 1942, page 1 Soldier Shoots Usherette Then Suicides BRISBANE:-An American soldier carried out his telephone threat to shoot an usherette at the Lyceum Theatre last night, and then killed himself. The girl, Lilliam Gwendoline Lloyd (33), is in Brisbane General Hospital seriously ill. Crouched terrified behind the staff dressing-room door she heard the foot-steps of the American soldier who some hours previously had telephoned her and told her that he was going to kill her and her boy friend. The soldier entered her dressing room with a revolver in his hand. Trapped behind the door, Miss Lloyd was shot twice, once in the abdomen and again in the left side. The soldier,
a young corporal, then turned the revolver on himself.
He died about midnight in the Brisbane Hospital. |
