HELIDON AMMUNITION STORE

The Queensland Main Roads Commission built an Ammunition Store at Helidon for No. 2 Replenishing Centre. The buildings were set back into some sloping ground. Various paths to the ammunition stores and the internal roads were made of unsealed gravel. A road was constructed to the Russell railway siding. The floors of the stores were also gravel. Fences were erected and facilities were provided to allow the transfer of goods from railway trucks to transport trucks. Storage for provisions, records and a magazine were also built. The total cost for the project was £11,280.
