I would be interested in anything you might remember of a U.S.A.A.F pilot who flew P-39s out of New Guinea early in the war. I think he was in the 35th Fighter Group or the 347th Fighter Group. I think he had a fighting Rooster on the side of his plane. Thank you for any info available. My E-mail is:

Dear Mr. Dunn: My Grandfather Was William Alexander KIRKWOOD, born in Australia, imigrated to the U.S. in 1850 s or 1860. His father and uncle brought him over. His father returned with wife to Aus. He didn't like U.S. William Alexander Kirkwood stayed in the U.S. He graduated from San Jose State Normal school and was a teacher and an Attorney. He married Eva Cushman and had three daughters and a son. Irene the oldest, Lois, my mother, Marian, then Gordon Bruce Kirkwood. He had no children. The father and mother, who returned to Aus. also had a daughter. She married a Congrieve, who's Son was a famous Austrailian PILOT and was supposed to have set a few records, pre WW-2.

William Kirkwood, Sr., my great grand father, was supposed to have gone to Aus. from Scotland by sailing ship. My grandfather, William A. Kirkwood was born in Aus. Sept. 15, 1857. The family sailed to Calif. 1868. Nicholas Kirkwood. the older brother, was Chief Engineer for the Pacific Coast Steamship Co. William Sr. died in Aus. in 1893, his wife on Oct. 23, 1908. There were two other brothers, Tom and Andrew, neither were married. There were three daughters, Agnes, Margaret and Belle. They all married, however I don't know there married names except for the Congrieve, and then I don't know which first name to put with it. My grandfather, William,Jr. was born at Mt. Ararat on Sept. 14 1857.

This is a short history and somewhat jumbled. I guess I would like to know is there anyone in the family still alive and where might they be living. I am 76 with so-so health. There are no Kirkwoods left from this family, here in the U.S.Anything worth sending would be appretiated

Sincerely Gordon Keith Clare
