CRASH OF A MOSQUITO
AT BANKSTOWN, NSW
ON 21 SEPTEMBER 1944

RAAF Mosquito A52-24 (Mark FB.40) crashed on approach to Bankstown airfield on 21 September 1944. This was during a pre-delivery test flight. The pilot, Flight Lieutenant Ifould was killed. He was on his first flight as a test pilot for Hawker De Havilland. The cause of the accident was not due to structural failure, as had been the case with some earlier test flights. It was described as simply an accident.
