CRASH OF A LIBERATOR
AT TOCUMWAL, NSW
ON 16 APRIL 1945

RAAF, B-24L Liberator, A72-36, (#44-40409), of 7 Operational Training Unit (7 OTU) crashed at Tocumwal on 16 April 1945 after losing its hydraulics. It hit a tree while making an emergency landing and ran into a ditch. It was piloted by Flight Lieutenant E.J. Merryweather. Some months later the aircraft was deemed unrepairable and it was written off. The aircraft had been delivered in June 1944.
