DURING WWII

During WWII the US Navy established a Naval Officers Club at 50 Oxlade Drive, New Farm in Brisbane, on the other side of New Farm Park from the Brisbane Submarine Base at New Farm. The former buildings of the USN Officer's Club are later used by the Riverside Receptions centre, adjacent to the Merthyr Bowls club and the RSL Headquarters.

By 2025, the former Riverside Reception Centre had become a new eating venue called the "Officers Mess". Not sure why they used that name instead of the correct former WWII name of "Officers Club".

The two buildings of the Merthyr Bowls Club were
relocated to the site from Camp Columbia after WWII

Todays Merthyr Bowls Club was originally opened on 5 October 1949 as the Limbless Soldiers Bowling Club. The Merthyr Ladies' Bowling Club was an associate club at that site. In the early 1950s two ex Army huts were relocated to the site from the former US Army's Camp Columbia at Wacol to be used as their clubhouse etc.
