AWAS CAMP
AT THE TOP OF KURAN ST., CHERMSIDE

DURING WW2

The Australian Women's Army Service (AWAS) camp was at the top of Kuran Street in Chermside. It was surrounded by a very high barbed wire fence.

The Civil Construction Corps (CCC) had a large camp near Ellison Road at Chermside in Brisbane during WW2.

A USAAF P-40 Kittyhawk crashed at nearby Camp Chermside in Brisbane in about 1944 about 50 metres from where the Kedron-Wavell RSL club is located.

There was a bomb and ammunition dump in Beneke's paddock in the bush near the corner of Webster Road and Rode Road. It was guarded by U.S. Negro soldiers.

There was a petrol dump in Basnett's property on Hamilton Road, Chermside.
