Juno Section, New South Wales

JUNO SECTION, NSW
AKA JUNO POINT BATTERY
IN AUSTRALIA DURING WWII

Two QF 18-pdr Mk 4 guns were installed in early 1942 at Juno Point on the northern shore of Broken Bay in New South Wales to supplement the 4.7" guns at West Battery. The battery was known as the Juno Section. They were able to cover the approaches to Brooklyn and the entrance to Cowan Creek.

Hawkesbury Fire Command was also located at Juno Section. The RAE personnel of 123 CASL Section which were attached to Juno Section were transferred to the RAA in May 1943 and later absorbed into Juno Section in October 1943.

The guns appear to have been manned by the 31st Garrison Battalion from about mid 1943. The guns were later maintained by a cadre manned by 8 Volunteer Defence Corps Battalion as required.

Some people have used the unofficial name of Juno Point Battery for the site instead of its correct name of Juno Section.
