AMBERLEY HEAVY
ANTI-AIRCRAFT BATTERY
391 HAA GUN STATION
AMBERLEY AIRFIELD, QLD
DURING WWII
![]()
A detachment of 6 Heavy Anti-aircraft Battery relocated from Colmslie Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery to the 391 Heavy Anti-aircraft Gun Station at Amberley airfield. They used four 3" heavy anti-aircraft guns at the site. Terry Sullivan was a member of the group that moved to Amberley. He said they were the only anti-aircraft battery in the area to his knowledge at that point in time. 391 Heavy Anti-aircraft Gun Station had been formed in July 1942.
Terry Sullivan said that the Anti-aircraft Battery was located on Anti-aircraft Hill or maybe Battery Hill just past the old main gate off the road heading to Harrisville.
In mid 1943 soldiers from "A" Company and "B" Company, 9 VDC Battalion were detached from their battalion and trained on the guns at Amberley.
In September 1943, their 3" guns were taken out of service and 391 HAA Troop (Static) was disbanded.
