80 SQUADRON - RAAF
IN AUSTRALIA DURING WWII

80 Squadron RAAF was formed in Townsville on 10 September 1943 flying Kittyhawks. They were based at Aitkenvale airfield in Townsville from October 1943 until February 1944.

They then moved to Nadzab in New Guinea.

Hi our names are Stephen & Karen Charteris. We found your web page through the North Queensland Research & Salvage (NQRS) site. We are trying to find some information for my father regarding his cousin.

Dad's cousin was in the 80 Squadron RAAF based in Townsville during WW2. his name was Ron Parry . His plane went MIA . We have never been able to find out whether he ditched or was captured by the Japanese & executed.

3 other pilots from his flight went down & were captured & executed.

Ron flew a Kittyhawk A29-668. We would be very grateful if you have any information on either Ron or his Squadron.

We believe he went down off the North West coast of New Guinea during a storm in approx 1944-45.

Hoping you can help us with any info.
