COLLISION OF TWO CATALINAS
AT CAIRNS, QLD
ON 19 FEBRUARY 1944

RAAF PBY-5 Catalina, A24-33 (original Serial No. USN  08159) was preparing to alight at Cairns after a test flight when it was hit by RAAF PBY-5 Catalina A24-38 (original Serial No. USN 08203) which was taxiing at the time. The port float on A24-33 was torn off and left wedged in the mainplane of A24-38.

A24-33 had originally been delivered to the RAAF in January 1943 and A24-38 in February 1943.
