oval and the Australian Army used the area
to the south and east of the Lang Park oval

Plan:- NAA

RAAF area just north of the Lang Park Oval

Due to the unavailability of suitable buildings in the Brisbane area to establish a Motor Transport Repair Section, just over five acres of vacant parkland was taken over during mid 1943 just north of the Lang Park football oval in Brisbane as per the above National Archives of Australia plan. After they erected their own workshops and living quarters 2 Motor Transport Unit RAAF was formed in August 1944 at Lang Park. 2MTU was later taken over by 3 AD as their Motor Transport Repair Section.

3 Stores Depot RAAF took over the Lang Park site from 3 Aircraft Depot 3AD in 1946? and relocated the Sergeants Mess there on 22 May 1946. Lang Park was eventually vacated by 24 January 1947. Seven guards were left there for security against ‘squatters’ until the Queensland Housing Commission took possession of the site on 4 February 1947. The hiring of the Lang Park site was terminated on 13 September 1947 and was returned to parklands.

A Bellman hangar was delivered to the Motor Transport Repair Section site but was never erected. It was then planned to send the Bellman Hangar to the Cannon Hill area. However, it got ‘lost’ and was only found several years later after investigation revealed that it had been sent to 7 Stores Depot at Toowoomba.
